After meeting your representative, a short walk will take you to your waiting fishing boat which holds no more than 6 guests. The fleet of boats used range in size from 28' to 40' in length and have a very basic head.
Setting out from Ketchikan, your crew will get you set up with your fishing license as you head out to deep waters. Halibut are the largest of all the flatfishes. Some halibut exceed 400 pounds and are usually on or near the bottom at depths of 90 to 900 feet. Enjoy the hospitality of your experienced, Coast Guard-licensed captain who will relish the opportunity to show you, your family, and your friends the breathtaking beauty of Ketchikan from our "local viewpoint" - on the water.
Glimpses of our local mammals and birds - whales, seals, sea otter, porpoise, sea lions - may also be on the agenda so keep your eyes open.
All fishing gear, tackle and bait is included. Mandatory fishing licenses are purchased directly from your captain. We ask that you please wear deck or rubber-soled shoes and dress warmly in layers. Make sure the top layer is waterproof. You may choose to catch and release all day, or have your catch processed and shipped home for an additional fee.
PLEASE NOTE: Since the summer of 2011, guests are only allowed to keep 1 halibut per person up to a maximum length of 37 inches. All others must be released. Once all guests have caught a halibut, the captain will reposition to a salmon fishing location. A minimum of 4 guests are required for tour to operate.
